Importance And Rights Of Teachers In Islam

"Read! In the Name of your Lord, Who has created (all that exists)" [Quran 96:1]
"He gives wisdom to whom He wills, and whoever has been given wisdom has certainly been given much good. And none will remember except those of understanding." [Quran 2:269]

Acquiring knowledge is obligatory ob both Muslim males and females. Allah likes those who seek knowledge. Because of the importance of knowledge, Allah commanded His Messenger SAW ( may Allah exalt his mention ) to seek more of it. Allah says (what means): "and say: `My Lord! Increase me in knowledge" [Quran 20:114]
Al-Tirmidhi Hadith 218 Narrated by Anas ibn Malik
Allah's Messenger (saws) said: ‘The seeking of knowledge is obligatory for every Muslim.’
Al-Tirmidhi Hadith 249 Narrated by Al-Hasan al-Basri
Allah's Messenger (saws) said: ‘He whom death overtakes while he is engaged in acquiring knowledge with a view to reviving Islam with the help of it, there will be one degree between him and the Prophets in Paradise.’

There is no doubt that each one of us struggles so that his child becomes successful, and he rejoices when his child is studying and working hard, or when he becomes a scholar. On the other hand, he becomes saddened if this child is not successful and is expelled from school. These are natural feelings and sensible behavior, but we must prepare right from the beginning in order to provide the proper techniques to achieve the happy ending. Teachers bring change in human life by educatin them and increasing them in knowledge since his birth till he reaches practical life. Holy Prophet PBUH said

"Narrated AbudDarda': Kathir ibn Qays said: I was sitting with AbudDarda' in the mosque of Damascus. A man came to him and said: AbudDarda, I have come to you from the town of the Apostle of Allah (peace_be_upon_him) for a tradition that I have heard you relate from the Apostle of Allah (peace_be_upon_him). I have come for no other purpose. He said: I heard the Apostle of Allah (peace_be_upon_him) say: If anyone travels on a road in search of knowledge, Allah will cause him to travel on one of the roads of Paradise. The angels will lower their wings in their great pleasure with one who seeks knowledge, the inhabitants of the heavens and the Earth and the fish in the deep waters will ask forgiveness for the learned man. The superiority of the learned man over the devout is like that of the moon, on the night when it is full, over the rest of the stars. The learned are the heirs of the Prophets, and the Prophets leave neither dinar nor dirham, leaving only knowledge, and he who takes it takes an abundant portion." [Abu Dawud Book 25, Number 3634]

We are fully aware with the importance and the influence of a teacher in our society. Whether it is a Muslim teacher or a non-Muslim teacher, no one can falsify the importance a teacher holds in our modern society. A teacher plays an important role in the character building of a child. So, it is very important for a teacher to be a man of his letters and must exhibit a strong character by his actions that persuade his or her students. Teacher is someone who makes a child and plays an important role in the personality building of his or her students. Verily Islam elevated the people of knowledge over others. The texts pertaining to this are numerous. Allah says in Quran
"Say, are they alike those who have knowledge and those who don't have knowledge?" [Al-Qur'an 39:9]
"Allah will exalt in degree those of you who believe and those who have been granted knowledge." [Al-Qur'an 58:11]

It is encouraged in Islam to sit with the learned man and be close to him
Yahya related to me from Malik that he heard that Luqman al-Hakim made his will and counselled his son, saying, "My son! Sit with the learned men and keep close to them. Allah gives life to the hearts with the light of wisdom as Allah gives life to the dead earth with the abundant rain of the sky." [Malik Muwatta Book 59, Number 59.1.1]

The one who strive to seek knowledge, Allah will help him
"He who treads the path in search of knowledge, Allah will make that path easy"
Allah says in Quran
"...Allah will exalt in degree those of you who believe, and those who have been granted knowledge. And Allah is Well-Acquainted with what you do. " [Quran 58:11]

Rights of Teachers
Teachers enjoy abundant rights on their pupils since they are sources of their perfection and familiarity with life experts. They are also sources of their mentalities' illumination. Therefore, teachers' rights are preferable to fathers'. Pupils are required to show their teachers the highest pictures of respect and reverence.

Imam Zain-ul-'Abidin says, "The right of your instructor is dignifying him and committing to solemnity in their classes and good listening and attending. You should provide for your instructor with mental presence and conceptual attendance and heart retaining and sight propinquity. The way of all these is laxness of desires and confine of lusts. You must understand that you are the emissary of what you have been received to the ignorant you may meet. Then, you should convey properly and never breach the mission if you should perform."

Knowledge brings a great reward. The one who points the way to something good is like the one who does it. When the knowledgeable person dies, his reward with Allaah does not cease when he dies, rather it continues to increase so long as people benefit from his knowledge. The Prophet said: "When a man dies, all his deeds come to an end except for three — an ongoing charity, beneficial knowledge or a righteous child who will pray for him." (Muslim)

O Allah grant me the ability to honour, respect and fulfil the rights of my teacher. Ameen
And Allah knows the best. Whatever written of Truth and benefit is only due to Allah’s Assistance and Guidance, and whatever of error is only ones. Allah Alone Knows Best and He is the Only Source of Strength.
