Narrated Anas ibn Malik: The Prophet (peace_be_upon_him) said: The Last Hour will not come until people vie with one another about mosques.
[Abu Dawud Book 2, Number 0449]

Vie generally mean to strive in competition or rivalry with another. As stated people will vie each other in mosques this can be refer to vying in prayers i.e. people will vie in competing their prayers or perhaps people will tend to pray faster than others in order to carry out other tasks related to world.
