Is wine consumption good or bad?
Does Quran contradict on chapter of wine. Is it good or bad?
Some Non-Muslims try to contadict Quran by following verses
Wine Is Bad
O ye who believe! Intoxicants and gambling, (dedication of) stones, and (divination by) arrows, are an abomination,- of Satan's handwork: eschew such (abomination), that ye may prosper," (5:90).
Wine Is Good
(Here is) a Parable of the Garden which the righteous are promised: in it are rivers of water incorruptible; rivers of milk of which the taste never changes; rivers of wine, a joy to those who drink; and rivers of honey pure and clear. In it there are for them all kinds of fruits; and Grace from their Lord. (Can those in such Bliss) be compared to such as shall dwell for ever in the Fire, and be given, to drink, boiling water, so that it cuts up their bowels (to pieces)?" (47:15).
And,
Truly the Righteous will be in Bliss: On Thrones (of Dignity) will they command a sight (of all things): Thou wilt recognize in their faces the beaming brightness of Bliss. Their thirst will be slaked with Pure Wine sealed," (83:22-25).
Is there a Contradiction? No!
Why Some Forbidden Things On Earth Are Allowed In Heaven
There is no contradiction. The first verse that is 5:90 talks about forbidding wine in earthly life as it can cause serious consequences.
The later verse talks about the wine in Heaven which will be much different from the wine produced on earth and will be without intoxicant and will not let individual to commit harms to other. Wine of Paradise does not contain the very ingredient which has made it prohibited in this life. Specifically, intoxicants. See verses below.
Volume 009, Book 093, Hadith Number 589.
Narated By Abu Huraira : The Prophet said, "Allah said, "I have prepared for My righteous slaves (such excellent things) It would not take a rocket scientist to know what the earthly wine has done to the wild West. It has not only created alcoholics but also broken down homes. A person who got drunk does not remember what happened to him when he was drunk and Allah in His Divine wisdom says:
" O ye who believe! Intoxicants and gambling, (dedication of) stones, and (divination by) arrows, are an abomination,- of Satan's handwork: eschew such (abomination), that ye may prosper. Satan's plan is (but) to excite enmity and hatred between you, with intoxicants and gambling, and hinder you from the remembrance of Allah, and from prayer: will ye not then abstain?" [Qur'ân 5:90-91]
So, the earthly wine has a character of not only intoxicating the person but also to make him stop remembering Allah who has created him to worship Him alone. What does the wine in Paradise do? Does it intoxicate the people who drink it? No!
"In gardens of felicity, facing each other on thrones, round will be passed a cup from a clear flowing fountain, crystal white, of a taste delicious to those who drink thereof, Free from headiness; Nor will they suffer intoxication therefrom." [Qur'ân 37:45-47]
Why Some Forbidden Things On Earth Are Allowed In Heaven
So, it is pretty clear if we compare the verses
Their thirst will be slaked with Pure Wine sealed [Qur'ân 83:25]
(Here is) a Parable of the Garden which the righteous are promised: in it are rivers of water incorruptible; rivers of milk of which the taste never changes; rivers of wine, a joy to those who drink; and rivers of honey pure and clear. In it there are for them all kinds of fruits; and Grace from their Lord. [Qur'ân 47:15]
With the ones in 37:43-47 (as mentioned above), it is clear that the drink of Paradise is not like the earthly drink. It is free from headiness and intoxication.
